Gambler 500 started in Oregon in 2014 with Tate Morgan and a small crew of OG Gamblers — a handful of friends rolling cheap, improbable cars into the backcountry just to see how far the gamble would go. What began as a weekend among friends became a worldwide calling card for cheap fun outdoors.

The vehicles are the joke and the point: hoopty sedans, weird builds, things that have no business on a washboard road — and somehow make it anyway. You bring something you're willing to gamble with, not something you're afraid to scratch.

Along the way, Gamblers pick up trash. Stewardship is baked in — bags, dumpsters, trophy trash, abandoned junk hauled off public land. Mad Max energy with a cleanup crew. Leave it better than you found it.

It is not a race. There is no podium and no prize money. Hit waypoints, help your neighbors, tell stories around camp, and Always Be Gambling. The name stays free: use it for your own run, don't monetize it, pick up trash, and remember the only real rule: don't be a dick.

OHO — Other Half of Oregon — is our local chapter of that spirit: Memorial Day weekend in Eastern Oregon, Degens and hoopties, same ABG ethos as the mothership. Same rules. Same trash bags. Our half of the map.

ABG — Always Be Gambling — is the motto spray-painted on hoopty hoods and muttered when the trail gets weird. Your car might not make the next ridge. The map might lie. The recovery strap might become the main character. You show up anyway.

Gambling is the point: unreliable machines, uncertain routes, weather that didn't read the forecast, and the quiet bet that a crew of Degens will figure it out together. It's never a gamble whether you'll have fun — only whether you'll make it back on the same tires you started with.

Degens — that's us — roll for cheap fun and public land left better than we found it. Strap a mattress of trophy trash to the roof, help the hoopty stuck in the ditch, and grin the whole way home. Fun over rules. Stewardship over spectacle.
